Infrared spectrometry (FT-IR) is used for identifying a wide range of materials, including plastics, resins, rubbers, pharmaceuticals, food additives, solvents, and other (usually organic) materials. FTIR uses infrared radiation to measure absorbance/transmittance of a spectrum of wavelengths through a sample. Analysis of the resulting spectrum can determine the identity of one or more compounds within the sample. FT-IR has applications in quality control, pharma, food, polymer production, forensics and research.
