Description
The Malvern Zetasizer Nano ZS Zen 3600 uses dynamic light scattering (DLS) to measure the particle size of dispersed systems. It has a range from sub-nanometre to several milometers in diameter. The Zetasizer system determines the size by first measuring the Brownian motion of the particles in a sample using DLS, then interpreting a size using established theories. For a more in depth explanation of the science behind the method, see pages 20-24 of the user manual.
The instrument is intuitive to use. Samples are placed into a suitable cuvette, or cell, which is then placed into the cell area at the top of the machine. Pressing the illuminated cell access button will open the lid. This will also activate safety interlocks on the laser and electrode to protect the user. The lid is then pushed closed before the measurements take place.
